The much anticipated naked street bike, Yamaha MT15 is scheduled to be launched in India tomorrow, 15 March. In India, It will be positioned between the FZ V3.0 and the FZ25.
The bike was launched in International market a couple of years ago and was an instant hit there. The launch in India, however, was delayed because of the price issue. The MT 15 that retails in Thailand retails in a price that happens to be about 1.7 lakhs in India. Not many Indians will pay this amount for a 155cc motorcycle. This is why Yamaha India has made Indian-spec MT 15 that lacks some features that are present in the international-spec model to make it suitable for Indian market.
The engineers at Yamaha India were busy figuring out a way to bring the price down of MT15 in India and as the leaked photos of India are surfacing online, it is confirmed that they have successfully managed to do that.
Some of the major differences found in India-spec MT15 are that it lacks USD forks in the front, alloys are different, fuel tank is less contoured, a two mouthed exhaust and more advanced Instrument console.
With the launch date of MT 15 approaching nearer, many authorized dealers of Yamaha in India have shared ads of ‘Bookings open’ on social media. The bookings are being accepted at a varied pricing. Some dealers are charging INR One thousand, some are charging Two thousand, some are taking Five thousand, while some are not taking any amount, just noting down the name and contact number of the person.
The India-spec MT15 is powered by the same engine of R15 V3. The 155cc single-cylinder engine produces 19.3 PS peak power and 15 Nm peak torque via 6-speed transmission. Tyres are from MRF (international MT15 gets Pirelli / Metzeler). Braking setup is also same as R15 V3. Front and rear disc brake with dual ABS. Mileage claimed by dealer is in the 45 kmpl region. Expected launch price is INR 1.25 lakh, (ex-showroom). It will take on the likes of KTM Duke 125, TVS Apache RTR 200, etc.
